PETER WROTCHFORD AND THE HORRIFIC ATTACK IN FOLKESTONE, KENT
A 47-year-old man named Peter Wrotchford has been sentenced to 18 years in prison following a series of heinous crimes committed in Folkestone, Kent.The incidents involved the brutal rape and subsequent sexual assault of a woman, which occurred in the early hours of September 4, 2022.
The criminal act took place around 4am in the Tram Road area of Folkestone, a town in the county of Kent.
Wrotchford, formerly residing on Ashley Avenue in Folkestone, targeted the victim while she was walking alone during the early morning hours.
The court heard that Wrotchford forcibly raped the woman inside his vehicle before engaging in further sexual offences.
Following the assault, Wrotchford did not simply leave the scene.
Instead, he took the woman for a harrowing ride across various locations near Folkestone.
Throughout this ordeal, he continued to commit sexual offences, showing a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.
The victim, after enduring the trauma of the attack, was eventually driven to the residence of a friend.
It was there that she confided in her friend about the assault.
The incident was promptly reported to the authorities, leading to an extensive investigation by Kent Police.
Authorities were able to link Wrotchford’s vehicle—a white Ford Connect—to the crime through evidence collected during their inquiries.
The police arrested Wrotchford the very next day, on September 6, 2022, and he was formally charged with both rape and sexual assault.
Following a trial, Wrotchford was found guilty of the charges on April 14, 2023.
His conviction led to his sentencing at Canterbury Crown Court, where the judge handed down an 18-year prison term.
Additionally, Wrotchford will serve a further four years on license, ensuring supervision after his release.
Detective Constable Chris Brett, a member of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, expressed his sentiments regarding the case, emphasizing the importance of addressing violence against women and girls.
He stated, ‘Tackling violence against women and girls is one of Kent Police's key priorities, and part of that work is bringing offenders like Wrotchford to justice.’ He further commented on the gravity of Wrotchford’s actions, describing them as ‘despicable,’ and expressed satisfaction that the offender would be off the streets of Folkestone for a significant period.
Detective Brett also praised the victim’s bravery throughout the investigation and court proceedings, acknowledging her courage in recounting her traumatic experience.
He hoped that the swift arrest and strong sentencing would aid her in the process of rebuilding her life after such a traumatic ordeal.
