PETER WILSON'S DECADES-LONG ABUSE IN MANCHESTER AND ATHERTON ENDS IN 27-YEAR SENTENCE
A man responsible for a prolonged campaign of sexual abuse spanning over five decades has finally faced the consequences of his actions.Peter Wilson, a 67-year-old resident of Manchester, whose crimes began in 1972, has been linked to the abuse of seven victims over an astonishing 51-year period.
His pattern of offending, which included incident assaults, rape, and other forms of sexual misconduct, was detailed during a court hearing at Bolton Crown Court.
Judge Abigail Hudson addressed the court, stating, “The reality of your offending is that damage you have caused will go on forever,” highlighting the lasting impact of Wilson’s actions on his victims.
The court heard how Wilson’s abusive behavior started in 1972, marking the beginning of a disturbing and relentless cycle of exploitation directed at young people.
Over the years, he subjected multiple victims to deeply traumatic experiences, ranging from inappropriate advances to coercive acts and outright rape.
Wilson’s crimes persisted over decades, during which he manipulated and exploited his victims, shattering their innocence and trust in others.
The long history of abuse was finally brought to light in 2023, when law enforcement authorities arrested Wilson following a courageous disclosure from one of his victims.
This brave victim’s testimony prompted a police investigation that led to a search of Wilson’s residence.
During the search, officers recovered two mobile phones, a disc enclosed within an envelope, and a small camera containing an SD card and a hidden camera.
Forensic analysis of these devices revealed videos depicting the exploitation of a female child.
These videos were classified as first-generation, type A indecent images of children, showing distressing and sadistic acts that caused significant concern.
Further investigations involved interviewing witnesses and collecting additional evidence, which uncovered the extent of Wilson’s abuse.
As a result, Operation Bunker was launched to coordinate the case, which involved 28 counts related to Wilson’s criminal activities.
The evidence amassed painted a disturbing picture of a man who had systematically exploited vulnerable victims for decades.
When brought before the court, Wilson, of Bowling Green Row, Atherton, pleaded guilty to several charges, including sexually assaulting a child under 13 by touching, sexually assaulting a child under 13 by penetration, and creating indecent images of a child.
Despite his pleas, a jury found him guilty of an additional 23 sexual offences, which included indecent assault and rape involving both children and adults.
Judge Hudson commended the bravery of Wilson’s victims, acknowledging their courage in coming forward.
Wilson was sentenced to 27 years in prison, with an extended license period of five years.
Additionally, he will be registered as a sex offender for life and is subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, ensuring ongoing restrictions and monitoring to protect the public from further harm.
