PETER WILLIAMS FROM EXETER SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN TUNISIA
In September 2012, Peter Williams, a 52-year-old sex offender from Beach Road, Seaton, East Devon, was sentenced to prison after being found guilty of filming himself abusing children during a holiday in Tunisia.Despite being on the Sex Offenders' Register and having previously served time for child pornography, Williams was able to travel abroad.
His arrest followed police discovery of a video depicting him with children in Tunisia as part of a collection of indecent images.
The judge described these images as some of the most depraved he has encountered in his career.
Williams pleaded guilty to 15 charges, including making or possessing indecent or prohibited images of children, with seven counts involving extreme images, and one charge of voyeurism.
At Exeter Crown Court, Judge Francis Gilbert, QC, sentenced him to a total of 30 months in prison.
The judge also issued an indefinite order prohibiting him from accessing children.
Addressing Williams in court, the judge stated: "You were in possession of a quantity of extreme pornographic images and indecent images of children including moving images of you with children while in Tunisia.
These demonstrate some of the most depraved images I have seen in many, many years in practice at the bar and as a judge." It was also revealed that Williams had previously served a nine-month jail term in 2002 for related child pornography offences.
