COVENTRY MAN PETER SINCLAIR JAILED FOR DOWNLOADS OF CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In October 2017, Peter Sinclair, a 42-year-old from Coventry, was sentenced to prison after it emerged he had been downloading and viewing indecent images of children for several years.His ex-partner tipped off the police, leading to his arrest and subsequent prosecution.
At Warwick Crown Court, Sinclair pleaded guilty to six charges related to creating and possessing indecent images of children.
He was sentenced to eight months in prison, ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years, and placed under a sexual offences prevention order that restricted his internet access for the same period.
Prosecutor Lucy Cash explained that earlier this year, Sinclair’s former partner handed over an external hard drive to the police, which contained indecent images of boys across all three categories of severity.
Following this, officers obtained a warrant to search Sinclair’s home, where they also seized his laptop, which held additional images.

Cash noted that three charges corresponded to images found on the laptop, while the remaining three related to those on the hard drive.
Authorities identified a total of 98 still images and 26 videos in Category A, depicting children aged ten to fifteen engaged in penetrative sex acts.
In Category B, there were 140 still images and 93 videos of boys of similar ages involved in non-penetrative sex acts.
Category C included the most disturbing content, with 328 still images and 11 videos of children as young as five or six, depicted in naked or indecent poses.
When questioned, Sinclair, who had no prior convictions, refused to comment on the findings, as Miss Cash reported.
His legal defender, Amy Jackson, stated that Sinclair, who worked as a build technician and was currently on sick leave, acknowledged the seriousness of his crimes.
Jackson said Sinclair was struggling with his motivations but accepted responsibility for downloading the images.
She explained that he initially viewed legitimate pornography but was drawn into illegal material over time.
While he claimed not to have an interest in very young children, he admitted to having an attraction to older boys.
In his pre-sentencing report, Sinclair appeared to misunderstand the nature of the images, believing they depicted young children rather than teenagers.
Jackson clarified: “His real issue is that when he hears ‘images of children,’ he thinks of young children rather than teenage boys.
The majority of the images are of boys aged 13 to 15.
He accepts that this is entirely inappropriate and criminal, and it’s taken very seriously by society.” She also highlighted that Sinclair had suffered social consequences, losing family and friends due to the stigma of his actions.
Judge Stephen Eyre QC delivered the sentence, stating: “The actions you engaged in, viewing and downloading images of young boys being abused, contribute to a world where abuse continues because those tempted to commit such acts see others willing to view this material.
I have to sentence you for possessing a large number of indecent images.
“Most of these children were aged 10 to 14, which is deeply troubling.
You downloaded images of boys being abused.” The judge expressed skepticism about Sinclair’s claims of remorse but acknowledged his brief insight into his behavior.
Recognizing that this offending spanned over four and a half years, Judge Eyre stated: “I have no alternative but to pass an immediate sentence of imprisonment.”
