January 2013 Woodsetton man jailed for sickening children and animal pictures A 49 YEAR-old Woodsetton man caught with thousands of sickening still and moving indecent images of children some as young as two has been jailed for a year. When police officers seized a computer belonging to Peter Parkes they found 3,643 pornographic images of youngsters stored including a small number at levels four and five – the worst categories. They also discovered a further 793 images on Parkes’ mobile telephone including 384 movies and stills at level four and five photographs at level five. Recorder Michael Burrows QC told Parkes, of Brook Street, they were serious charges because he had downloaded the images over a seven year period – between 2005 and 2012. “There are a significant number of moving images involving children under 10 years of age and some as young as two to four” said the Recorder. There were also a number of photographs containing extreme pornography involving animals. Mr Simon Hanns defending the Wolverhampton Crown Court case said Parkes’ life was now in “tatters,” his marriage was over, his wife was seeking divorce proceedings and his children no longer spoke to him. “His standing in the community is also in ruins,” said Mr Hanns who maintained Parkes had first looked at the images out of no more than curiosity. “Why he felt obliged to then travel down the road is a mystery” he said. “He cannot understand himself why he accessed these images and then continued going onto the sites.” Mr Hanns said Parkes was a man who clearly needed help for his problems and concluded: “Society will be much better served with him being given the support he clearly needs.” Parkes admitted 23 charges of making indecent images of children and another of possessing extreme pornography. He was further made the subject of a sex offenders protection order by the Recorder who told Parkes he must also register as a sex offender for the next seven years. Parkes, who showed no reaction as he was jailed, was further banned from ever working with children.
