A man named Peter Mulligan, aged 62, from Tranmere, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison after admitting to possessing indecent images of children, images involving animals, and extremist pornography. Mulligan was arrested by Merseyside Police in July 2024 during a warrant at his residence, where multiple devices containing these illicit images were recovered. He pleaded guilty in Liverpool Crown Court on October 21 to charges including possessing indecent images of children, making indecent images of a child, possessing extreme pornographic images of animals, and possessing a prohibited image of a child. Consequently, Mulligan was sentenced to a year in prison and was also ordered to be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years. The detective sergeant involved, Rory Quigley, emphasized the importance of protecting children and announced that Mulligan's actions would be met with justice, stating: "Mulligan's sentencing follows a lengthy investigation to bring him before the courts so that he pays for his crimes. Merseyside Police is completely committed to protecting children from sexual abuse and those who seek to do them harm." The police also urged anyone with information about child abuse to come forward and report it.
