PETER MOORE'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN BOURNEMOUTH AND WILTSHIRE REVEALED
In a chilling series of criminal acts, Peter Moore, a man with a disturbing history of sexual offenses against children, has been sentenced to a decade behind bars for heinous crimes committed in Bournemouth. The court proceedings shed light on the extent of his predatory behavior, which spanned over a decade and involved multiple victims.Moore, aged 39 and formerly residing on Palmerston Road in Boscombe, pleaded guilty to nine counts of indecent assault and three charges of gross indecency with a child. The Bournemouth Crown Court was informed that these offenses came to light while Moore was already serving a four-year prison sentence for child pornography offenses. Notably, he was arrested just two days before he was scheduled to be released from custody, indicating a continued pattern of criminal activity.
Historical records reveal that Moore's criminal history is extensive. In August 1994, he was convicted and sentenced to eight years in prison for sexually assaulting four young boys in Wiltshire. Despite being legally prohibited from working with children and being placed on the sex offenders’ register for life, Moore managed to establish contact with a young victim, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons.
Prosecutor Kerry Barker detailed how Moore had arranged multiple meetings with the boy, who was between 12 and 14 years old at the time. Moore, who was employed by a florist and used a van for his work, would lure the boy into the passenger seat of his vehicle. From there, he would drive to secluded locations, where he would persuade the boy to enter the back of the van. Once there, Moore would encourage the boy to remove his clothes before subjecting him to sexual abuse. The victim finally reported these incidents to the police in July 2007.
The impact of the abuse was profound. The victim described feelings of anger and aggression afterward, which manifested in physical fights. He expressed regret for not disclosing the abuse earlier, revealing that Moore had threatened him to silence him. The court heard that the victim had been too frightened to come forward sooner, fearing repercussions from Moore.
In his defense, Moore acknowledged his guilt, stating that he had pleaded guilty to spare his victim the trauma of testifying in court. The judge, Samuel Wiggs, noted that Moore was not mentally ill and accepted that the offenses, although serious, were limited in number and of short duration. Nonetheless, Judge Wiggs sentenced Moore to ten more years in prison, emphasizing the severity of his crimes and the need to protect the public.
Adding to his disturbing criminal profile, Moore's past includes a 2005 conviction for possessing and distributing a vast collection of indecent images of boys. At that time, he was 35 years old and residing in Boscombe. Police had discovered that Moore had been posing as a clergyman, creating a false identity card using a computer and scanner. When officers raided his residence, they seized a computer containing approximately 900 indecent images of boys, some as young as seven, along with 31 images that Moore had sent via email.
Moore was convicted on multiple counts, including ten of distributing indecent photographs and eight of possession. His criminal record from 1994 also included an eight-year sentence for attempted sexual offenses against two young boys and gross indecency with a child. During his 2005 trial, Moore attempted to shift blame onto his wife, Alex, claiming she was responsible for the images, asserting that she spent hours on the computer late into the night. When questioned about whether she viewed pornography, she declined to answer.
His defense lawyer, Kate Lumsdon, requested that Moore be allowed to continue using a computer for his desktop publishing business, citing his employment needs. However, Judge Samuel Wiggs expressed serious concerns about Moore's past and the potential risk he posed to the community. The judge highlighted the disturbing nature of Moore's arrest, noting his attire as a clergyman at the time, and underscored the gravity of his previous convictions involving young boys. Ultimately, the court's decision reflected the need to safeguard society from Moore's predatory tendencies, leading to his continued incarceration.
