PETER MAROSITZ ATTACKS AND RAPES WOMAN IN EDINBURGH BEFORE FLEEING TO ENGLAND
A disturbing case of sexual assault has come to light involving Peter Marositz, a 42-year-old man who carried out a brutal attack on a woman inside her Edinburgh home before fleeing across the border into England.The incident, which occurred on April 29 of this year, has shocked the local community and prompted a swift response from law enforcement authorities.
According to court proceedings, the victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was at her residence in Edinburgh after having dropped off her children at a nursery.
It was during this time that Marositz, who was known to her, launched his assault.
He forcibly covered her mouth with his hand, preventing her from calling for help, and pushed her to the floor.
Using duct tape, he restrained her hands and mouth, effectively immobilizing her as he began his heinous act.
Advocate depute Mark Mohammed KC detailed the sequence of events to the High Court in Edinburgh, stating, "He placed duct tape over her mouth and also bound her hands with the tape." Despite her efforts to resist, the woman was forcibly taken into a bedroom where she was assaulted.
Marositz removed her lower clothing and subjected her to a rape.
During the assault, he forced her underwear into her mouth to silence her, then removed it, only to tape her mouth again and continue the sexual attack.
Following the assault, Marositz removed the tape from her mouth and hands, providing her with an opportunity to escape.
Seizing her chance, she ran out of the house and encountered a neighbor in the street.
She disclosed her ordeal, revealing that she had been tied up and raped.
The neighbor immediately called emergency services, and police responded promptly to the scene.
Officers found the woman in a highly distressed state, clearly traumatized by the events.
Meanwhile, Marositz had fled southward into England.
His escape was short-lived, as he was apprehended near Durham.
During his arrest, police discovered that he had inflicted self-harm, with wounds to his wrist, and he was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.
Marositz, a Hungarian national and a self-employed painter and decorator, admitted to abducting, assaulting, and raping the woman during his court appearance.
His actions included preventing her from leaving her residence and detaining her against her will.
The court heard that he was remanded in custody, with a background report ordered to assist in sentencing scheduled for next month.
Lord Summers, presiding over the case, confirmed that Marositz would remain in custody until the next hearing, emphasizing the seriousness of the charges and the need for further assessment.
