PETER LIVINGSTON JONES AND RAYMOND DICKENS CONVICTED OF SEX OFFENCES IN COVENTRY AND RUGBY
In a significant case that has shocked the Midlands community, two men, Peter Livingston Jones and Raymond Dickens, have been found guilty of a series of serious sexual offences committed against multiple young women over a span of several years. The convictions follow a detailed trial that revealed the extent of their criminal activities across the cities of Coventry, Rugby, and the surrounding Leicestershire area.Peter Livingston Jones, aged 55 and residing on Wheelwright Lane in Coventry, was convicted of a total of 11 separate offences. These crimes targeted five different victims and took place over a period of approximately 24 years, highlighting a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior. Jones’s criminal record includes charges such as rape, kidnap, false imprisonment, administering drugs to facilitate sexual activity, inciting prostitution for financial gain, sexual assault, and causing actual bodily harm. The jury’s verdict came after six days of intense deliberation, during which they carefully considered the evidence presented.
Raymond Dickens, aged 53 from Langdale Close in Rugby, was found guilty of eight offences involving three victims. His crimes primarily occurred during the 1990s and included counts of indecent assault, rape, procuring a woman to become a prostitute, and false imprisonment. Dickens’s actions, as established during the trial, demonstrated a pattern of exploiting vulnerable women for sexual purposes, often involving coercion and manipulation.
Adding a further layer to this disturbing case, Helen Thompson, aged 43 and living on Morris Close in Rugby, was also tried alongside Jones and Dickens. She was convicted of kidnapping, a serious offence that underscores her involvement in the criminal activities linked to the other two men. Thompson’s role in the events was significant, as she was directly involved in transporting one of the victims to a flat in Rugby, where the assault took place.
The case revealed that one of the victims had a long-standing relationship with Jones, having first met him when she was a teenager. During their interactions, Jones would give her money and buy her cigarettes, establishing a manipulative relationship. In 1998, Jones accused her of theft and claimed she needed to work off her debt. This led to her being assaulted and forcibly taken in a vehicle driven by Thompson. The vehicle then traveled to a flat in Rugby, where Jones raped her, claiming it was repayment for her supposed debt. Additionally, the same woman was subjected to indecent assault by Dickens after meeting him at a nightclub in Loughborough during the late 1990s.
Both Jones and Dickens denied all the charges, asserting that any sexual activity involved was consensual. However, the jury was convinced of their guilt based on the evidence presented during the trial. The court’s verdict detailed the severity of their crimes, with Jones being convicted of three counts of rape, one count of kidnapping, two counts of false imprisonment, administering drugs to facilitate intercourse, inciting prostitution for gain, sexual assault, and causing bodily harm. Dickens was found guilty of four counts of indecent assault, two counts of rape, procuring a woman for prostitution, and false imprisonment.
The sentencing for Jones and Dickens is scheduled for the following day, June 8, and will determine the length and nature of their imprisonment. Meanwhile, Helen Thompson’s sentencing will be scheduled at a later date, reflecting the gravity of her involvement in this disturbing series of offences. The case has left a lasting impact on the victims and the communities of Coventry and Rugby, highlighting the importance of justice and the ongoing fight against sexual violence.
