March 2017 Yeovil monster who beat, abused and raped children is jailed A monster who beat, raped and sexually assaulted three young girls has been sentenced to 22 imprisonment years today. Peter Kingdon, age 55, carried out sickening attacks on the girls over a period of 20 years and raped a 10-year-old while on police bail for historic sexual offences. He was branded “wicked” and “dangerous” by Judge David Ticehurst today (March 29) as the lengthy jail term was handed down at Taunton Crown Court. Prosecuting, Nikki Coombe told the court Coombe had been on police bail for historic sex offences against two young girls when he went on to rape a 10-year-old. He had pleaded guilty to two charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, three of indecency with a child and two of indecent assault. He also admitted two charges of rape of a child under the age of 13. The court heard he had beat one of his victims and hit her with a riding crop before going on to sexually assault her from the age of seven. “The victim confided in a friend about what had happened in 2014,” she said. “She has been badly affected by it emotionally – at the time she had been too afraid to tell the police – too afraid to tell anyone. What was happening to her became normal.” The court heard Kingdon went on to target a second victim, touching her and making her touch him from the age of around five. “She didn’t tell anyone what he was doing because she was afraid that people wouldn’t do it,” Mrs Coombes said. “Every time he abused her, he said it would be the last time.” She said the woman had suffered a number of mental health problems, including depression, self-harming and an eating disorder. But sickeningly, while police investigated the complaints against him, Kingdon went on to abuse and rape another child. The child was overheard whispering to Kingdon and when questioned about what they had been talking about became tearful, saying she could not tell anyone or she would be in trouble She went on to make a number of disclosures about the abuse and rapes she had suffered at Kingdon’s hand. When the girl’s mother confronted Kingdon, he told her: “I’m sorry. I f***** up.” Kingdon, who appeared in the dock in custody but is originally from Yeovil, had initially denied the charges, before changing his pleas to guilty. Sentencing him to 22 years in prison, Judge David Ticehurst said: “Between 1998 and 2006, you committed these terrible offences against young children. You physically and sexually abused them. “You were arrested and while you were on bail, you committed further offences on another child. You raped a 10-year-old girl. “It is impossible to know the extent of the damage you have done to these three young people. The harm you have caused them will remain with them for the rest of their lives. “You have shown a pattern of sexually despicable behaviour. I am satisfied that you pose a substantial risk to young children. I am satisfied you are a dangerous individual.” Kingdon was sentenced 18 years for each of the rape charges and an extra year on license, with both sentences to run concurrently. For the ABH charges he was given a concurrent sentence of six months and 12 months consecutively for the charges of sexual assault. For three charges of gross indecency with a child, he was sentenced to 12 months concurrent. His total sentence was 22 years and he was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for the rest of his life, and will remain on the sex offenders register until the day he dies.
