PETER GLOVER OF RUDRY SENTENCED FOR FAILURE TO PROVIDE VETERINARY CARE IN CAERPHILLY
Peter Glover, born around 1969 and residing at West View, Rudry CF83 3DW, was convicted in 2019 for neglecting his two dogs' medical needs. Glover pleaded guilty to neglecting his blue French bulldog, Skylar, and American bulldog, Cariad.Despite efforts by RSPCA officers to work with him to ensure his dogs received proper care, Glover ultimately faced criminal proceedings. It was noted that Glover refused treatment for Cariad’s apparent eye infection, while Skylar was suffering from a severe ear infection. Neither dog was given the necessary veterinary attention.
Skylar endured pain from an untreated ear infection, and Cariad later died due to complications following surgery to treat pyometra, a womb infection. The RSPCA confirmed that Skylar is now in their care and will be available for rehoming.
RSPCA Cymru described Glover’s neglect as “a clear failure of duty,” emphasizing that neither dog’s needs were adequately met. Inspector Sophie Daniels commented, “Education and working with owners is always a priority for the RSPCA – but, sadly, we were ultimately left with no choice but to pursue legal action in this case.
“Skylar’s ear infection and Cariad’s eye problems were not given the ongoing veterinary attention that this man was legally bound to provide. There was a clear failure of duty to these poor animals.” She further stated, “Owning an animal is a privilege – and ensuring appropriate veterinary care is a key part of the responsibility we have towards our pets. It’s so sad that, in this instance, that responsibility was not met.”
Glover was ordered to pay £235 in costs and charges. He also received a 30-month ban from owning animals, which expired in mid-2021.
This case was reported by the Caerphilly Observer.
