COATBRIDGE MAN JAILED FOR HORRIFIC DOUBLE MURDERS
Peter Duffy, aged 47, was convicted in the High Court of Glasgow for the murders of his brother, John Paul Duffy, and his partner, Emma Baillie, committed during 2022.The court was informed that Duffy inflicted multiple stab wounds on both victims.
Emma Baillie was additionally strangled.
The judge, Lord Scott, characterized the murders as “wicked,” highlighting their brutality.
Court proceedings showed that Duffy disposed of his brother’s body beneath rubbish in his apartment.
He claimed to have found both bodies but did not report the deaths, fearing responsibility.
Evidence showed Duffy admitted to a fellow inmate that he had murdered Ms Baillie after a violent argument, intending to make his brother appear responsible.
He also stated that he had stabbed his brother with an axe in self-defense and that he struck him on the head after verifying his pulse.
Sentencing has been postponed to review background reports, and Duffy remains in custody in Edinburgh awaiting sentencing at the High Court.
