Belfast Child Sexual Abuser
Peter Doyle, a man originally from Keady, was formally sentenced at Belfast Crown Court to serve a six-month custodial term after he pleaded guilty to multiple serious charges involving attempts to engage in sexual activity with a minor and the production of indecent images of children.

The court heard that Doyle had made an attempt to meet a girl he believed to be only 12 years old in a Belfast car park on September 29, 2021. This incident was the result of online conversations with members of a child protection group, known as the 'End Game Team,' who posed as a minor to catch potential offenders. Doyle’s actions were uncovered during a police investigation, which revealed that he had also used the Randochat platform to communicate with an individual he believed was a 12-year-old girl named 'Abby.'

During these exchanges, Doyle sent an unsolicited explicit image of his genitals, further evidencing his inappropriate intentions. A subsequent search of his mobile device uncovered a disturbing collection of 23 indecent images of children, highlighting the severity of his offending behavior.

In addition to the prison sentence, Doyle was subjected to a six-month period of licence upon his release, ensuring close monitoring of his activities. The court also imposed a five-year Sexual Offences Prevention Order, restricting his future conduct, and mandated that he be registered on the Sex Offenders Register for a period of ten years.

Judge Smyth emphasized the gravity of Doyle’s attempt to meet a minor for sexual purposes, describing it as a serious and concerning offense. The court acknowledged the role played by the 'End Game Team' in reporting Doyle’s activities to law enforcement, which led to his arrest and subsequent prosecution.

Throughout the proceedings, Doyle maintained his innocence regarding any sexual interest in children. He claimed that his actions were solely aimed at verifying the existence of the minor, denying any intent to commit sexual offenses. However, the court found the evidence, including the explicit images and communication records, to be compelling.

The judge’s decision underscored the heinous nature of Doyle’s crimes, with particular emphasis on the fact that he was caught red-handed attempting to meet a child for sexual purposes. The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement and child protection groups to combat online grooming and exploitation, especially in the Belfast area where this incident took place.
