June 2019: Peter Daniels, who is aged 70, and formerly of Alderbury, was re-sentenced today (12/06/19) after the Police and Crime Commissioner wrote to the Solicitor General to seek a review of the original sentence. Daniels was originally given six life sentences by a judge at Salisbury Crown Court in February, although he was only due to serve nine years in prison before being considered for parole. Today, he was told that the original sentence was unduly lenient and ordered to serve a minimum of 12 years. He had previously pleaded guilty to 78 charges, which were carried out between 2008 and 2017 and relate to children who were aged between two and 13 at the time. As well as the six life sentences, Daniels was handed 72 jail sentences ranging from four months to 16 years which will run concurrently However he was told he will have to serve a minimum of nine years before being considered for parole. He was convicted after video footage of his crimes was discovered by police, giving conclusive proof of the scale of his offending and the identities of his victims, some of whom were unaware of what had happened to them, due to either their very young age or the fact they had been either asleep or unconscious during the assaults. His victims in the latest case were aged between two and 13. Police said he “created” the Uncle Peter character to portray himself as “a caring pillar of the community”. He made his home as welcoming as possible for children by stocking it with treats, said detectives. Between 2008 and 2017, he took children out on day trips, bought them presents and gave them money. He would also provide babysitting services, pick them up from school and have sleepovers for them at his house, the court heard. This was described as “classic grooming behaviour” in court. The full extent of Daniels’ crimes was only uncovered after his first conviction. When his home was searched, police found a collection of children’s toothbrushes and dressing gowns. December 2018 A “PROLIFIC” child rapist has admitted 78 offences relating to the sexual abuse of 22 young victims – some as young as two years old. Peter Daniels, aged 70, pleaded guilty to the charges at Winchester Crown Court today and has been remanded in custody until he is sentenced next year. The charges relate to offences against 22 young victims, who were aged between two and 13 when they were abused by Daniels, between 2008 and 2017. He was initially jailed for 12 years last October, after a young girl reported that she had been sexually abused by Daniels. At the time he pleaded guilty to 12 offences, which included rape, attempted rape, sexual touching and possession of indecent images. Police and the Crown Prosecution Service considered more than 4,000 videos and images, as well as interviews, to bring the correct charges against Daniels, who pleaded guilty after he saw the extend of the evidence gathered. October 2017 Child rapist who groomed victims with booze and gifts is jailed A “menace to children” who raped and sexually abused young girls after he befriended their parents was jailed for 12 years today Peter Daniels, aged 69 and of Alderbury, previously admitted 12 sexual offences dating back to August 2016. Prosecuting, Tim Moores said Daniels was known as “Uncle Peter” to a large number of children in Salisbury. Daniels had begun to look after many children and they had got into the habit of visiting him, with some staying the night in his home. Mr Moores said: “It appears he had managed to ingratiate himself by buying presents for children, taking them out on trips and offering to babysit.” He added that Daniels had targeted low income families and bought the girls presents which “made these girls keep coming back”. The court heard that one of the victims said that she had liked going to Daniels’ house because she got to do what she liked and was allowed to stay up late. The other girl said that on two occasions she had “got off her head” after Daniels had given her beer, vodka and cider. In mitigation Michael Butt said that the offences “mercifully occurred without the victim knowing anything about it” as all but one took place when the girls were asleep. Mr Butt said Daniels “vehemently denies” that he “deliberately created the opportunity for sexual abuse” but instead that he took advantage of the situation. “A significant factor of this case is there is a lack of force, violence or compulsion,” Mr Butt added. “He doesn’t seek to minimise what he actually did to them. “This is an obvious interest that has grown over the years in his mind.” Judge Richard Parkes said Daniels had demonstrated classic grooming behaviour. “You plainly had this offending in your mind over a number of years – you are a menace to children,” Judge Parkes added. Daniels was sent to prison for 12 years with an extended licence period of five years. He will also be made subject to a sexual harm prevention order and an indefinite restraining order against his two victims. Winchester Crown Court heard that the offences came to light after an allegation was made in July this year. A police investigation found indecent images and videos on a tablet belonging to Daniels. September 2017 Child rapist, 69, admits string of sex offences against young girls AN Alderbury man who admitted a string of sex offences towards girls under 13 has been told by a judge he will be jailed. Peter Daniels, 69, pleaded guilty to twelve counts of sexual assault at Winchester Crown Court today. The charges against him date back to August 2016. Enquiries are now taking place into alleged similar offending by Daniels, after 16 other children made complaints, the court heard. Prosecuting, Tom Moores said there was a “large ongoing enquiry” and “a large quantity of material stored on phones and cameras to be checked”. He said Daniels “was a keen cameraman and filmed and photographed perfectly normally on occasions” but indecent images and videos had been found. Mr Moores said the investigation into the new allegations may not be complete until early next year. Judge Susan Evans QC told Daniels: “Please understand you are going to receive a significant custodial sentence.” Daniels, who spoke only to confirm his name, will be sentenced on October 13 at Winchester Crown Court.
