PETER COLLINS FROM LINGDALE ESCAPES JAIL AFTER CHILD ABUSE IMAGE CHARGES IN TEESSIDE AND REDCAR
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the local community, Peter Collins, a 53-year-old resident of Lingdale, appeared before Teesside Crown Court via video link from Holme House prison to face serious allegations related to child exploitation images.The charges against Collins stem from a series of disturbing offences spanning a decade, from 2006 to 2016, involving the creation and distribution of indecent images of minors.
According to court records, Collins was charged with three counts of making indecent images of children.
These offences involved a total of 159 photographs, which varied in their level of severity, and were found on four separate exhibits presented during the trial.
The images depicted minors in compromising and inappropriate situations, highlighting the gravity of the case.
In addition to the charges related to the indecent images, Collins faced a further count of distributing an indecent photograph of a child, which occurred in March of the previous year.
The court also considered a separate incident from February 16, when Collins was found in possession of a hunting knife in Redcar, adding to the seriousness of his criminal record.
Recorder Andrew Sutcliffe QC presided over the case and delivered the sentence.
Recognizing the nature of the offences and their impact, the judge sentenced Collins to two years in prison, but this sentence was suspended for two years, meaning Collins would not serve time unless he committed further offences within that period.
Additionally, Collins was ordered to complete 35 days of rehabilitation activities aimed at addressing his behaviour and was placed on the sex offenders register for a decade, underscoring the long-term monitoring and restrictions imposed on him.
Earlier in February 2017, Collins had already been warned by a judge about the seriousness of possessing indecent images of children.
The court emphasized that such offences typically result in imprisonment, reflecting the severity with which the justice system treats crimes involving child exploitation.
Despite the gravity of the charges, Collins avoided immediate jail time, but the court made it clear that the offences were highly serious and had significant legal consequences.
