PETER CATER FROM NORTHWOOD JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON CHILD AT NORTHWOOD ESTATE
In a case that has shocked the local community of Northwood, Peter Cater, a 57-year-old man from Iveagh Close, was sentenced to 19 months in prison after admitting to a serious sexual assault involving a young girl. The incident took place on the Northwood estate, where Cater had been employed for over three decades as a caretaker and odd-jobs worker, a role he held for 32 years before his arrest. The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about the assault. According to the judge, Stephen Holt, Cater approached the young victim outside a lock-up area on the estate and invited her to come inside. When she refused to comply with his demand to strip, Cater proceeded to assault her. The assault was only brought to light when the victim, who is now 15 years old, confided in her mother in May of the same year.
Authorities acted swiftly after the disclosure. During the investigation, police discovered a collection of pornographic magazines and DVDs in Cater’s residence. Some of these materials contained extreme adult images, raising further concerns about his conduct and interests. Initially, Cater denied the charges of sexual assault and incitement, but he later admitted to both during subsequent court hearings.
As part of his sentence, Cater was also prohibited from having any unauthorized contact with children for the next ten years. Additionally, he is required to register as a sex offender, a measure aimed at monitoring his activities and preventing future offenses. The court’s ruling reflects the severity of the crime and the need to protect vulnerable members of the community.
It was also noted that Cater is expected to serve approximately half of his prison term. Given that he has already spent time in custody, his release is anticipated around April of the following year, subject to the usual parole and release conditions. The case has left many residents of Northwood concerned about safety and the importance of vigilance in their community.
