PETER BUNYAN PENSACNE'S PERVERTED PAST: HORRIFIC CRIMES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS IN CORNWALL
In a chilling case that has shocked the community of Penzance and the surrounding areas in Cornwall, Peter Bunyan, a 43-year-old former Police Community Support Officer (PCSO), has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being convicted of heinous crimes involving two young girls. The offenses, which took place between 2005 and 2009, involved the sexual assault and rape of two girls aged just four and five years old.His arrest was prompted when one of his victims experienced distressing flashbacks during a visit from a police officer at her school, bringing to light the horrifying details of his abuse. The court proceedings revealed that Bunyan had a disturbing history prior to these crimes, including a previous jail sentence for misusing the police database as a 'dating agency' to facilitate affairs with vulnerable women. During his shifts as a PCSO in Camborne and Redruth, Cornwall, he had also engaged in sending sexually explicit text messages to women and had deliberately turned down his police radio to conceal his activities, indicating a pattern of predatory behavior.
Throughout the trial, Bunyan maintained his innocence, denying all allegations from the outset. However, the court found him guilty of three counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, with the incidents occurring over a four-year span. He was acquitted of one charge of rape against one of the girls. The jury's verdict confirmed the severity of his crimes, which involved full penetrative sex with the victims, who were too young to comprehend what was happening to them at the time.
Judge Simon Carr delivered a stern sentence, emphasizing the devastating impact of Bunyan’s actions. He stated, “Both girls were aged between four and five at the time and you assaulted them in a way that they would stay quiet. Neither girl really knew what had happened to them. You subjected them to full penetrative sex and both of the victims have since spoken of the pain they were in during and after the ordeal. Both of the girls are struggling to come to terms with what happened to them and the utter devastation caused by your actions. The victims have also since self-harmed as a way of coming to terms with it all.”
In addition to his prison sentence, Bunyan, who resides in Penzance, Cornwall, was ordered to serve at least half of his 24-year term before being eligible for parole. He is also required to register as a sex offender for life and is prohibited from living with or being in the company of anyone under the age of 16 for the remainder of his life. The judge’s verdict underscores the gravity of his crimes and the lasting impact on his victims, highlighting the community’s demand for justice and the protection of vulnerable children from such predatory individuals.
