On Thursday, 15 June 2023, the High Court in Edinburgh handed down a severe sentence to Peter Buller, a 58-year-old man found guilty of multiple counts of sexual abuse involving women and young girls. The court sentenced Buller to a term of 12 years in prison, a punishment that reflects the gravity of his crimes.
In addition to his prison sentence, Buller will be subject to a Lifetime Restriction Order, which aims to prevent him from reoffending and to protect the community from further harm.
Furthermore, he will be registered on the sex offenders register, ensuring ongoing monitoring and public awareness of his status.
His conviction was secured at the High Court in Stirling on Thursday, 15 December 2022, following a detailed police investigation that uncovered disturbing details about his offending history.
The investigation was initiated after a report was made to authorities in July 2020.
As detectives delved deeper into the case, they identified up to 14 victims, several of whom were children at the time the abuse occurred.
The offences spanned a lengthy period, from 1984 to 2020, and were committed across various locations in the Perth, Kinross, and Fife areas.
Detective Constable Karen Nairn expressed her thoughts on the case, stating, “Peter Buller is facing the consequences of his actions as he begins his prison term.
The victims have been incredibly strong in coming forward and disclosing the terrible abuse they suffered.
I hope knowing Buller is now behind bars offers them some solace as they move forward with their lives.
We remain committed to supporting victims of sexual crime and protecting children from harm and abuse.
We will use all available resources to find and arrest the abusers, no matter how much time has passed.
I would urge anyone who is a victim of abuse to speak to police in the knowledge they will be fully supported.” This case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement in Edinburgh and surrounding areas to bring offenders to justice and to provide a voice for victims of sexual crimes.
The authorities reaffirm their dedication to safeguarding vulnerable individuals and ensuring that offenders like Peter Buller are held accountable for their actions.
