Oldham Rapist
In May 2014, Peter Britain, a 33-year-old man from Failsworth, Oldham, was sentenced to 13 and a half years in prison at Manchester Crown Court on Minshull Street for historic sexual offences involving two teenage girls.

Britain was convicted after a trial of three counts of rape and two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child. The offences were committed in 2007 and 2008.

The crimes came to light after one of the victims disclosed what had happened to her partner. Following this revelation, Britain was arrested in February of the previous year.

Justin Hayhoe, Senior Crown Advocate for CPS North West, stated: “Peter Britain was well aware of the ages of his young victims when he deliberately targeted them.

“I would like to thank the victims for reporting the abuse to the police and supporting the prosecution. They were able to give their evidence to the court from behind screens to avoid facing their abuser directly.

“Throughout the case, Britain denied that the offences ever happened. However, the victims’ compelling evidence led the jury to convict him of the crimes committed against them.

“The CPS and police are committed to bringing to justice anyone who commits sexual offences against children and will continue to support victims in any way possible.”
