PETER BARNEY BANNED FROM BOURNEMOUTH AFTER SEXUAL HARM ORDER BREACH
In March 2021, Peter Barney, a resident of Verwood Road in Bournemouth, faced serious legal consequences after he was found guilty of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. The incident took place in the town of Bournemouth, where Barney appeared before Bournemouth Crown Court on March 17 to answer for his actions.
Barney’s legal history is marked by a prior conviction from March 2013, when he was sentenced to three years in prison for an assault by penetration.
Following that conviction, he was subjected to an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which was designed to restrict his interactions with females and prevent further offenses.
The court’s order explicitly stated that Barney was not permitted to be alone with any female who was not related to him while performing work in any property or garden.
The latest incident occurred on March 11 of the previous year, in Wimborne, a town near Bournemouth.
On that day, a woman was alone at her home when Barney, aged 59 and residing on Verwood Road, approached her by knocking on her front door.
He inquired whether she needed any gardening services.
During their conversation, which took place in the porch and front garden of her property, the woman initially did not recognize Barney.
However, as their interaction continued, she realized that she knew him and was already aware of the court order restricting his behavior.
The woman recounted that Barney’s conduct made her feel extremely uncomfortable.
She also reported that he made inappropriate comments about her ‘beautiful eyes,’ which added to her distress.
As she moved to call her husband for support, Barney left her garden area and was seen driving away in a vehicle.
The woman promptly reported the incident to the police, leading to Barney’s arrest the following day.
At the court hearing, Barney admitted to breaching the Sexual Harm Prevention Order but denied making the comment about her eyes.
He also claimed that much of their interaction occurred on the pavement outside her property rather than within her garden, attempting to dispute the victim’s account.
However, after considering the evidence presented, the judge dismissed Barney’s version of events and upheld the victim’s testimony.
Following the conviction, the court imposed additional restrictions on Barney.
He was subjected to a new Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order was put in place to ensure the victim’s safety.
Both orders are set to remain in effect until further notice, emphasizing the court’s commitment to preventing any future incidents involving Barney in Bournemouth and surrounding areas.
