PERMIT SINGH FROM GLASGOW CAUGHT IN CHILD PREDATOR STING AT ROBROYSTON
In January 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Permjit Singh, a 62-year-old man from Glasgow's Robroyston area, who became entangled in a sting operation targeting online predators.Singh believed he was communicating with a young girl aged 13, but in reality, he was in contact with members of a vigilant group posing as minors to catch potential offenders.
Singh engaged in conversations with these decoys over Facebook, initially under the alias ‘Mak Chal’ and claiming to be 45 years old.
Over the course of a week, he exchanged numerous messages with two different decoys, one of whom explicitly stated she was only 13 years old.
During these exchanges, Singh made explicit remarks about having sex with them and even requested photographs, demonstrating a clear intent to pursue illegal activity.
In one particularly alarming message, Singh warned the decoy girl to delete all messages before her aunt discovered them, indicating an awareness of the illicit nature of his communications and an attempt to conceal his actions.
The decoys, part of a group actively monitoring and confronting online predators, confronted Singh during a live stream on Facebook, which captured the interaction and led to his subsequent arrest.
Following his apprehension, Singh appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court, where he pleaded guilty on the Friday to two charges of sending sexual written communications to someone he believed was a child, in December 2019.
The court proceedings revealed that Singh was a first-time offender, and he was subsequently placed on the sex offenders register.
His sentencing was deferred until the following month to allow for the preparation of background reports by Sheriff Paul Crozier.
While on bail, Singh remains free pending further court action.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement and community groups in Glasgow to combat online child exploitation and protect vulnerable minors from predatory behavior.
