PAUL WOOLSTON FROM HARTLEPOOL CAUGHT BY PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS IN SHOCKING SEXUAL PREDATION CASE
In a disturbing case that has once again highlighted the dangers lurking online, Paul Woolston, a resident of Hartlepool, was apprehended after attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor. The incident unfolded after Woolston, aged 45, was caught in a sting operation conducted by the Child Online Safety Team (COST), a dedicated group that infiltrates internet platforms to identify and apprehend individuals seeking to exploit children.
Woolston's actions came to light in October of the previous year during a hearing at Teesside Crown Court.
It was revealed that he maintained two separate accounts on the dating application FastMeet.
One of these accounts was notably explicit, with Woolston using a provocative pseudonym to attract potential contacts.
Despite being aware that the individual he was communicating with was under the age of 16, Woolston continued to send sexually suggestive messages, demonstrating a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of minors.
The court was informed that Woolston initiated contact with the 'girl' in April of the previous year.
Over the course of their online exchanges, he made numerous suggestions of sexual activity, which were intercepted by the authorities.
The prosecution, led by Paul Abrahams, detailed how Woolston's communications were part of a deliberate attempt to engage in illegal sexual conduct with a minor.
Woolston, who resides on Cornwall Street in Hartlepool, pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.
His guilty plea came after the evidence was presented, confirming his involvement in the online predatory behavior.
As part of his sentencing, Woolston was handed a 30-month community order.
This included a requirement to complete 20 days of rehabilitation activities aimed at addressing his behavior and a further 120 hours of unpaid work.
The case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement and specialized online safety teams to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable minors from online predators.
Images associated with Woolston show him outside court in 2017, and another depicts him being confronted by a paedophile hunting group, illustrating the ongoing vigilance required to combat such heinous crimes.
