PAUL WHYTE FROM RENFREWSHIRE CAUGHT TRYING TO ENGAGE WITH UNDERAGE GIRLS IN GLASGOW
In a disturbing incident that has raised serious concerns about the safety of minors, Paul Whyte, a known sex offender from Renfrewshire, was caught attempting to communicate with what he believed were three underage girls.The incident took place in Glasgow, where Whyte, 54 years old, engaged in conversations with individuals he thought were teenage girls but were actually members of a paedophile hunting group operating undercover.
Using the alias 'Garyshark,' Whyte initiated contact with the decoys on social media platforms, specifically Tagged and Google Hangouts, in July of the previous year.
His interactions quickly took a disturbing turn as he made sexualized comments, openly discussing the kind of sexual activities he desired to engage in with the minors.
Prosecutor Mhairi Alexander detailed to Glasgow Sheriff Court that Whyte's messages were explicitly sexual in nature, including statements such as, “Don’t tell your mum about this,” which indicated an attempt to conceal his intentions.
Following the exchange, law enforcement authorities acted swiftly.
Whyte was arrested at Glasgow Central train station after the group orchestrated a sting operation to catch him in the act.
The police investigation confirmed that Whyte had attempted to communicate sexually with minors, breaching the strict conditions of his Sex Offenders Register order.
It was also disclosed during the proceedings that Whyte has a prior conviction for sexual offences dating back to 2008, which resulted in him being placed on the register for life.
During the court hearing, Sheriff Sean Murphy QC deferred sentencing until next month to allow for the preparation of comprehensive background reports.
Meanwhile, Whyte, who resides in Paisley, remains in custody as his remand continues.
The case underscores ongoing concerns about the monitoring and management of convicted sex offenders, especially those with lifelong registration requirements, and highlights the persistent threat posed by individuals with a history of sexual offences.
