Dover Sexual Abuser
In June 2005, a disturbing case emerged involving Paul Walmesley, a 28-year-old chef from Dover, who was caught in a serious criminal act that has shocked the local community. The incident came to light after Walmesley's own sister handed over a CD-ROM to police, which contained explicit footage of Walmesley engaging in sexual activity with a girl significantly younger than him.

According to court proceedings, Walmesley was filmed via his computer webcam during a sexual encounter with a girl who was nearly half his age. The girl, whose identity remains protected, later refused to cooperate with social services staff when questioned about their relationship. Despite her silence, the evidence was enough to lead to Walmesley's arrest.

Walmesley, residing at The Paddocks in Dover, claimed that he believed the girl was over 16 years old. He insisted that she had provided him with a document purportedly confirming her age. However, the court was informed of Walmesley's troubling past, including a previous conviction for engaging in sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl.

Prosecutor Darren Weir outlined the timeline of events, revealing that in March of the previous year, the teenage girl, who had a history of running away from her foster home, was suspected of having unlawful sexual intercourse. Two weeks later, Walmesley's sister submitted the CD-ROM to the police, which clearly showed Walmesley and the girl engaging in consensual sex.

Further investigation led to Walmesley's questioning by authorities about the incident. During the interview, he admitted to having sex with the girl but maintained that he believed she was 17 at the time. The court also learned that Walmesley had previously received a police caution in January 1998 for a similar offence involving another 14-year-old girl. He was later arrested and charged, resulting in a two-year probation period.

Defense lawyer Tanya Robinson argued that Walmesley was inexperienced with technology, claiming he had only recently acquired his computer and was unfamiliar with how to operate the webcam. She stated that the girl was the one who knew how to use the device.

Ultimately, the judge sentenced Walmesley to 10 months in prison. In his remarks, the judge condemned his actions, stating, "Whatever your beliefs, you took advantage of this young girl because you have a passion for having sex with young girls." Additionally, Walmesley was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, marking a significant and serious consequence for his actions.
