GLASGOW RAPIST PAUL SCOTT AND TRIED TO THROW HER OUT A WINDOW
A 36-year-old man has been sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of raping a woman and trying to throw her out of a window. The incident took place at Scott’s home in Glasgow on May 15 last year, where he attacked his 31-year-old victim.
At Edinburgh's High Court, Judge Colin MacAulay QC also imposed a two-year supervision period once his prison term concludes.
The judge explained he considered Scott’s background and the lack of a significant criminal record in his sentencing.
Evidence revealed that Scott had brought the victim and her boyfriend to his flat near Glasgow Cross following an encounter.
The woman testified that her partner had been assaulted, prompting Scott to invite them over for the injured man to wash.
During the incident, while her partner was sleeping, Scott covered her mouth and forcibly pulled her into a bedroom by her hair.
He then assaulted her and attempted to force her out through a first-floor window.
Scott was cleared of an allegation that he repeatedly threatened her with death.
The judge emphasized that Scott's conviction was for a very serious offence that deserved lengthy imprisonment.
He described the attack as opportunistic, targeting a vulnerable woman, involving repeated rapes, and an attempt to endanger her life by pushing her out of a window.
Scott had also faced charges related to another rape in Glasgow in November 2001, but was acquitted after an appeal decision.
His solicitor, Tony Quinn, highlighted Scott's learning difficulties and troubled past, stating that reports referenced past abuse and issues with binge drinking.
