August 2018 Lorry driver caught with indecent images of children spared jail after breaching order A lorry driver who downloaded sick images of children has been spared jail after breaching a protective order. In 2014, a Sexual Offences Prevention Order was imposed on Paul Robson to prevent him using the internet to view indecent pictures and videos. It came after the former soldier admitted making and possessing a stash of child porn. One of the terms of the SOPO was to produce any device which could access the internet for police to examine. Teesside Crown Court heard how, in May this year, Robson’s offender manager became concerned after failing to reach the 39-year-old via calls and visits to Robson’s home. Prosecuting, Harry Hadfield, told the court Robson’s Ford Fiesta was stopped by police in Yarm Lane in Stockton and the officer found a Sky HD box. The following day he was pulled over again, travelling along the Seal Sands Road. “When the officer asked if he had any devices capable of storing images he produced a Samsung phone,” said Mr Hadfield. “He said he had no other devices capable of accessing the internet. Officers searched his vehicle and found a smartphone and a sim card and the defendant was arrested.” No inappropriate images were found on the devices but they had not been declared to police. Robson told police he used the phone as a spare in case his main device stopped working, said Mr Hadfield. The driver, formerly of Hartlepool who now lives in Skelton, was not represented in court but admitted the charges of breaching the SOPO. Judge Sean Morris told him: “You are your own worst enemy”, and gave him a three-month jail sentence which was suspended for 12 months. March 2014 Pervert had indecent images of children A pervert has pleaded guilty to possession of indecent images of children on his mobile phone and computer. Paul Robson had trawled internet sites for sick pictures and even stole some personal intimate photos from an adult female friend’s phone. Teesside Crown Court heard that the 35-year-old initially claimed other people were responsible for downloading the filth. It was not until he was due to stand trial that Robson finally confessed to storing the images and having a sexual interest in children. He was told by Judge Simon Bourne-Arton, QC: “You knew what these images were, you knew you had them, and where they were. “You said firstly you stumbled across the images and eventually acknowledged a sexual interest in children. You clearly need help. “The troubling aspect if your case is that it has taken you a significant period of time to recognise that which you have done.” Robson, of Gulliver Road, Hartlepool, was given a three-year community order with probation supervision and sex offender treatment. Judge Bourne-Arton also imposed a Sexual Offences Prevention Order which will limit the former soldier’s future internet use. Robson admitted 16 charges of making indecent images of children, and one of possessing indecent images of children at an earlier hearing.
