PAUL ROBSON, SEX OFFENDER FROM NEWCASTLE, RECAPTURED IN LINCOLNSHIRE
A sex offender considered a "menace to females" has been safely reapprehended after escaping from an open prison.Paul Robson, aged 56, was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2000 following his sexual assault on a woman at knifepoint.
He absconded from HMP North Sea Camp in Lincolnshire on Sunday and was on the run for four days.
Robson was detained in Skegness at approximately 09:30 GMT on Thursday after a member of the public recognized him and contacted authorities, police reported.
Announcing his arrest, Lincolnshire Police's Chief Superintendent Kate Anderson expressed gratitude to the public, stating, "We thank everyone who shared our appeals and reported sightings." She added, "At this stage, we don't believe he had any accomplices or that he has committed further offences." Officers had been actively searching for Robson and had issued multiple appeals for information since his escape.
Additional photographs of Robson were released on Wednesday, with authorities indicating he may have altered his appearance.
It is understood that Robson has been returned to a closed facility and will not be eligible to seek parole for at least another two years.
A Ministry of Justice spokesperson commented that Robson would "face an uphill struggle proving he can ever be trusted to move to an open prison again." Originally from Newcastle, Robson was convicted at Oxford Crown Court for attempted rape and indecent assault of his victim.
