PAUL RAFFERTY AND TONY HUTTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN ST HELENS

In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of St Helens, a woman named Vicki Bevan, along with two men, Paul Rafferty and Tony Hutton, were found guilty of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse and rape of a young girl.

The investigation, which was a joint effort between Merseyside Police and St Helens Social Care, uncovered disturbing details about their actions and plans, leading to severe sentences handed down in court.

The case dates back to May 2022, when the extent of the abuse was brought to light.

It was revealed that Bevan, Rafferty, and Hutton conspired to commit child sexual abuse, with the disturbing motive of raising money to purchase a house that had a cellar.

The depravity of their intentions was compounded by their discussions and actions, which included the rape and sexual assault of a minor girl.

Bevan was directly involved in some of these acts, which she carried out alongside Rafferty and Hutton.

Further evidence revealed that Bevan and her accomplices discussed their desire to commit even more heinous acts, including kidnapping, raping, torturing, killing, and even eating children.

These chilling conversations were uncovered during the investigation, highlighting the extent of their depravity.

In June 2021, authorities uncovered additional evidence when a phone linked to Bevan was found to contain indecent images and videos of children.

This phone was connected to a mobile number associated with her.

The investigation expanded as further messages and images suggested that Bevan was actively involved in the sexual abuse of children with the assistance of Rafferty and Hutton.

The police conducted a search of Bevan’s residence, where they discovered numerous electronic devices, including laptops and mobile phones, all containing indecent images of children.

These devices also contained shared content involving Rafferty and Hutton, further implicating all three in the criminal activities.

Bevan was arrested on October 25, 2021, and faced initial charges of 11 offences.

As the investigation progressed, additional charges were added, culminating in a total of 34 counts against her.

In January 2022, Bevan pleaded guilty to all charges at Liverpool Crown Court.

Her crimes included child rape, multiple counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration, sexual assault of a child under 13, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, making indecent images, distributing indecent photographs of children, and possessing extreme pornography.

The court sentenced Bevan to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 10 years, reflecting the severity of her crimes.

Her accomplices, Rafferty and Hutton, also received lengthy sentences.

Rafferty, aged 62 and residing on Fry Street in St Helens, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with an extended four-year license period.

His crimes included the rape of a child under 13, assaulting a child under 13 by penetration, sexual assault of a child under 13, and multiple counts of making indecent photographs.

Hutton, aged 42 from Liverpool Street in St Helens, received a four-year sentence for sexual assault of a child under 13 and two counts of taking indecent photographs.

Throughout the court proceedings, Bevan displayed no remorse, even laughing and smiling with prison officers during a previous hearing in March, before wiping away tears when the judge entered the courtroom.

This case has left a lasting impact on the community of St Helens, highlighting the importance of vigilant law enforcement and social services in protecting vulnerable children from such depraved acts.
