PAUL QUINN SWINDON CHILD SEX OFFENDER SENT BACK TO PRISON FOR DARK WEB CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
In October 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving Paul Quinn, a known child sex offender from Swindon, who has been re-incarcerated after a series of heinous online activities.Quinn, who previously served a five-year sentence in Australia for sexually abusing a young girl and two boys, including a baby just weeks old, found himself back behind bars due to his involvement in sharing and distributing indecent images of children via the dark web.
Quinn, aged 37 at the time, utilized a clandestine Swiss-based online service to exchange vile photographs and videos depicting child abuse.
His actions came to light after an undercover police officer infiltrated the encrypted network and received the disturbing material directly from Quinn.
During their covert communications, Quinn not only shared numerous indecent images—28 videos and 201 pictures classified as the worst category—but also engaged in conversations suggesting he was willing to meet up with the officer.
Shockingly, he even discussed bringing along his young daughters, revealing a disturbing level of depravity.
Prosecutor Hannah Squire outlined to Swindon Crown Court that law enforcement was already aware of Quinn’s online activities before the latest incident.
The officer, operating on an encrypted email service, was sent the extensive collection of illicit material by Quinn.
The communication continued over a less secure network, where Quinn proposed a physical meeting.
This led to a police raid in mid-August, during which authorities seized Quinn’s computers.
The seized devices contained logs of his chats with the undercover officer, providing concrete evidence of his criminal conduct.
During the search, officers also discovered a troubling quantity of children’s underwear in Quinn’s bedroom, further highlighting his disturbing interests.
Quinn reportedly expressed remorse, stating, “I don’t know how I let it get to this stage again,” and expressed concern about the impact on his parents.
His online proficiency was noted, with the court hearing that he had previously worked for Sony on a forum and was capable of covering his tracks effectively, including accessing the dark web.
Quinn pleaded guilty to six charges—three counts of making indecent images of children and three counts of distributing such images.
His criminal history includes a conviction in Perth, Australia, in 2006, where he was sentenced to five years in prison for sexually abusing a girl and two young boys, one of whom was only weeks old.
Defense lawyer Mike Pulsford argued that Quinn posed a high risk to children and that community help was not feasible.
He explained that after returning to the UK, Quinn briefly worked for the local council but was dismissed once his criminal record check was completed.
Pulsford described Quinn as someone who had spent countless hours alone with a computer, admitting to having had unnatural thoughts about children for over 23 years.
Quinn himself reportedly expressed a desire for help during a meeting in Salisbury Magistrates’ Court cells.
Judge Tim Mousley QC sentenced Quinn to four years and four months in prison.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of Quinn’s actions, noting his sophisticated efforts to avoid detection and his deep-seated predilection for sexual activity with very young children, a pattern evident since his 2006 conviction.
Quinn is required to serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole, and he will be subject to a four-year extended license upon release, ensuring ongoing supervision and restrictions.
