PAUL MOXON AND SHOCKING CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN WAKEFIELD

A 70-year-old music teacher from Wakefield, Paul Moxon, has been convicted of severe sexual offenses involving minors he taught online.

The disturbing case came to light after an incident during a Zoom lesson, where a young pupil discovered her teacher had unexpectedly exposed himself.

The girl, who was attending a remote music lesson, noticed that Moxon had taken his trousers down.

Further scrutiny revealed that he was engaging in a sexual act while the lesson was ongoing.

The victim, distressed and suspicious, suspected that Moxon had previous incidents of similar behavior.

She brought her concerns to her parents, prompting them to contact the police.

Law enforcement officials acted swiftly, seizing Moxon’s electronic devices and hard drives for examination.

Investigators uncovered a chilling collection of illegal material, including over 1,000 indecent images rated in Categories A and B, with Category A representing the most serious offenses.

More horrifyingly, authorities found recordings of Moxon’s online lessons.

In these recordings, he superimposed images of his pupils’ heads into sexually explicit scenes.

The manipulations involved not only visual alterations but also audio recordings of innocent spoken words, which he inserted into these depraved scenes.

The prosecutor, Gerald Hendron, highlighted that Moxon exploited his computer skills to manipulate visual and audio content for his sexual gratification.

It was further alleged that Moxon coerced several children into saying suggestive words and phrases during lessons, which he then incorporated into his disturbing videos.

Evidence eventually revealed that multiple victims had been subjected to his abuse, with some victims witnessing him masturbate during their online sessions on more than one occasion.

Despite having no formal affiliation with local schools in Wakefield, Moxon conducted freelance lessons from his home on Wakefield Road in Normanton.

During police interviews, he chose not to comment but later admitted to eight counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child and two counts of making indecent images of children.

While he has no prior criminal record, the severity of his crimes led to his immediate detention.

His defense lawyer, Satpal Roth-Sharma, described Moxon as having had a 'long and distinguished career' as a music tutor, which he now acknowledged as irreparably damaged.

Roth-Sharma emphasized that Moxon recognized the gravity of his actions, noting, “These are serious offences and he was a teacher in a position of trust which he wholly abused.

He has had a shining career and one has to wonder what has triggered this.

He has no previous convictions, he has never even had a speeding ticket in his life." The lawyer also suggested that feelings of loneliness and familial separation might have contributed to his downfall, stating, “Regrettably, his sexual behaviour has led to this, and he does not seek to avoid accepting that.” In sentencing, Recorder David Gordon underscored the gravity of the case, describing the offending as an egregious breach of trust and a serious sexual offence.

Addressing Moxon directly, he highlighted the manipulation of images for sexual gratification, calling it a blatant abuse of his skills and position.

Moxon was sentenced to three years in prison and received a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

This order prohibits him from contacting children and monitoring his internet activity for the rest of his life.

Additionally, Moxon will be required to register as a sex offender permanently, and he is permanently disqualified from ever teaching children again.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by those abusing the digital environment and exploiting their positions to harm vulnerable young individuals.
