April 2012 Jailed for breaching sex crime order A SEX offender from St Austell was jailed for four years after he admitted communicating with four teenagers, in breach of an order designed to stop him reoffending. Paul Liston, 48, of Alexandra Road, was issued with a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) in January 2009 for 13 offences relating to the grooming of children and making and possession of indecent photographs. At Truro Crown Court on Thursday, Judge Erik Salomonsen gave Liston credit for pleading guilty. But he said the six offences Liston had admitted were so serious that it was appropriate to extend the licence period to six years. Anthony Farrell, for the defence, said that his client needed help in addressing his problems and that he would appreciate being given the opportunity to participate in sex offender courses. Mr Farrell told Truro Crown Court on Thursday: “If he goes to prison he will be homeless and jobless.” Judge Salomonsen imposed a new indefinite SOPO. He also told Liston that he must sign the sex offenders register for the rest of his life.
