PAUL LAWTON AND RAY WESTROP BANNED FROM BOURNEMOUTH AFTER HORRIFIC CHILD SEX IMAGE SCANDAL

In a case that has shocked the Bournemouth community, a couple, Paul Anthony Lawton and Ray Brian Steven Westrop, narrowly avoided immediate imprisonment after admitting to possessing an enormous collection of child sexual abuse images.

The disturbing discovery was made during a police raid on their residence in Wollstonecraft Road, Bournemouth, in September 2017, following investigations into internet activity linked to child exploitation.

Officers uncovered a staggering quantity of illicit material stored across various electronic devices and printed media.

The authorities estimated that the total number of images and videos exceeded one million, with some files dating back to the year 2000.

Not all of these images had been fully examined or categorized by police due to the sheer volume of material involved.

Among the images that were assessed, a disturbing 3,479 were classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of child abuse imagery.

Additionally, there were 2,463 images categorized as B, 7,560 as C, and 18 images depicting extreme pornography.

The scale and nature of the material found highlighted the severity of the offenders' actions.

During the court proceedings, Judge Stephen Climie addressed the defendants, both of whom had been together for over three decades.

Lawton, aged 55, and Westrop, aged 61, faced charges related to the possession of indecent images of children.

The judge emphasized that, although the defendants had not physically harmed any children or engaged in direct abuse, their actions still constituted serious sexual misconduct and made them complicit in child exploitation.

Judge Climie made it clear that if there had been any evidence of physical abuse or direct contact with children, the sentences would have been immediate and more severe.

The court was told that police had traced Westrop’s internet activity to the possession of these images, which led to the warrant and subsequent arrest of both men.

During interviews, the defendants admitted to being sexually attracted to children and to the existence of the images.

In sentencing, Judge Climie imposed a 20-month prison term for each defendant, suspended for two years.

They were also subjected to a six-month curfew, requiring them to remain at their Bournemouth home from 7pm to 7am.

Furthermore, they were ordered to complete up to 30 days of rehabilitation activities, pay costs of £215 each, and were placed on the sex offenders register for a decade.

A sexual harm prevention order was also issued, restricting their activities and contact for ten years, in an effort to protect the community from further harm.

This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and highlights the serious consequences faced by those involved in the possession of such heinous material, even in the absence of physical abuse.
