PAEDOPHILE PAUL KIRTON FROM PETERBOROUGH SENTENCED FOR DOWNLOAD OF OVER 5,000 CHILD IMAGES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Peterborough, a local man named Paul Kirton has been convicted of possessing a vast collection of indecent images of children. The incident came to light in March 2019 when authorities uncovered the extent of his online activities.
Paul Kirton, aged 41 and residing on Padholme Road in the Eastfield area of Peterborough, was identified after investigators traced an internet protocol (IP) address associated with his home to a file-sharing platform that contained illicit material.
This link led to a search warrant being executed at his residence in June of the previous year.
During the search, law enforcement officers seized a laptop and a computer tower equipped with two hard drives.
A thorough examination of these devices revealed a staggering total of 5,145 indecent images depicting children.
The images were categorized into different severity levels: 4,978 were classified as Category C, 89 as Category B, and 78 as Category A, which is considered the most severe and explicit.
Following the discovery, Kirton was promptly arrested and taken into custody.
During police interviews, he admitted to viewing these images approximately five years prior to his arrest, acknowledging his involvement and the extent of his online activity.
His confession came after he was confronted with the evidence.
Kirton appeared before Peterborough Crown Court on Monday, March 11, where he pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children.
The court sentenced him to a 10-month prison term, which was suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed another offence within that period.
Additionally, he was ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid community work and participate in a 35-day rehabilitation activity program aimed at addressing his behavior.
Furthermore, the court imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) against Kirton for a duration of 10 years, restricting his activities and monitoring his behavior to prevent further harm.
He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for the same period, ensuring ongoing oversight of his conduct and compliance with legal restrictions.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat online child exploitation and protect vulnerable victims from harm.
