MARTHAM MAN WITH INDECENT IMAGES ON PHONE AVOIDS JAIL
A paedophile who has been to prison twice for looking at indecent images of children has avoided jail after being caught again.
Paul Jack was found with 62 category B indecent images of children and 1,323 category C pictures after police went to his home in Cess Road, Martham, in July.
Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court heard officers visited Jack's home for an unannounced visit, which they are obliged to do as he is on an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
While there, they found "concerning internet searches" on his phone.
Katherine Newson, prosecuting, said police seized the device for further inspection and discovered the images of children.
Jack, 55, pleaded guilty to two charges of making indecent images of children, one charge of possessing an image of a child and failing to comply with the sex offenders register.
District Judge Matthew Bone said Jack had a "really unattractive record for looking at images of children".
He added that "custody clearly hasn't worked" for Jack, who was first sent to prison for indecent images in 2007, for seven months, and then again in 2021, for two years.
The judge gave Jack "credit" for complying with an "ongoing rehabilitation requirement", which was imposed by Woolwich Crown Court in March this year, because "prison has not worked".
Jack was ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work.
In addition, he was ordered to pay a £114 victim surcharge and police will destroy the phone that was seized.
