PAUL HORSLEY FROM STAFFORD CAUGHT IN ONLINE PAEDOPHILE STING USING FAKE TEEN PROFILE
In a disturbing case that highlights the dangers of online predators, Paul Horsley, a 55-year-old resident of Stafford, was caught in a police operation aimed at apprehending individuals attempting to engage in sexual communication with minors. The incident unfolded in October 2017, when law enforcement officers devised a covert operation by creating a fictitious profile under the name Dylan, claiming to be a 14-year-old boy.
Police reports reveal that Horsley was actively communicating with this fake profile, engaging in a series of messages that quickly took a sexual turn.
Prosecutor Sue Hayers detailed the case during a court hearing at North Staffordshire Justice Centre, stating, “This defendant was in contact with the ‘child’ and engaged in a number of messages and images with him.
The conversation was of a sexual nature and an image of an erect penis was sent by the defendant to the child.” Hayers further emphasized the inappropriate nature of the exchanges, noting, “There were certainly a number of unpleasant sexual comments that were made.
Mr Horsley believed he was communicating with a 14-year-old child.” Following the online interactions, Horsley was arrested and taken into custody.
The police investigation confirmed his intent to engage in sexual activity with a minor, leading to his guilty plea on charges of attempting to communicate sexually with a child.
In sentencing, magistrates at North Staffordshire Justice Centre imposed a 12-month community order on Horsley, requiring him to complete 150 hours of unpaid work.
Additionally, a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order was issued to restrict his future conduct.
The court also ordered Horsley to pay £185 in court costs and an £85 victim surcharge, underscoring the seriousness of his actions and the ongoing efforts to protect children from online exploitation.
