PAUL HARRIS FROM NUNEATON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING UNDERAGE GIRL IN WARWICKSHIRE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Nuneaton, Warwickshire, Paul Harris, aged 29, of Caldwell Road, was found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a minor and subsequently attempting to silence the victim. The incident took place in 2018, following a night out, when Harris had a sexual encounter with a young girl at her residence within the Nuneaton area.
According to Warwickshire Police, after the assault, Harris explicitly demanded that the girl keep the incident a secret, warning her not to tell anyone about what had transpired.
Despite this coercion, the brave victim chose to break her silence two years later, reporting the assault to law enforcement authorities in 2020.
Her decision to come forward was a significant step in seeking justice and protecting others from potential harm.
Following a thorough investigation by Warwickshire Police, Harris was charged and ultimately pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual activity with a child.
His court appearance took place at Warwick Crown Court on Monday, June 20, where he was sentenced to a prison term of three years and ten months.
The sentence reflects the gravity of his actions and the serious nature of crimes involving minors.
Detective Constable Kate Edge, a member of Warwickshire Police’s Child Abuse, Trafficking and Exploitation Team, expressed her concerns about Harris’s attitude during the investigation.
She stated that Harris showed no remorse for his actions and appeared more preoccupied with the potential consequences for himself rather than the trauma inflicted on the victim.
Her comments underscored the callousness of his behavior and the impact it has had on the young girl.
Det Con Edge described the victim as 'brave' for her resilience and courage in reporting the incident after enduring two years of silence.
She highlighted the profound effects the assault has had on the girl’s mental health, noting that she now struggles with forming relationships and suffers from sleep disturbances.
The detective emphasized the importance of support services provided to the victim throughout the legal process and expressed hope that Harris’s incarceration would offer some measure of justice and relief.
“Harris had sex with his victim in the full knowledge that she was underage.
This has had a terrible impact on the girl, who now faces ongoing difficulties with her emotional well-being,” Det Con Edge said.
“He showed no concern for her after the incident, being more worried about the repercussions for himself if she told anyone.
The victim carried this burden for two years before finally reporting to police.
Her bravery in coming forward and supporting the investigation is commendable.
We hope that seeing Harris behind bars provides her with some comfort and reassurance.”
