PAUL FRITH FROM CHESTERFIELD AND DERBY: DISTURBING CHILD ABUSE AND ILLEGAL COMMUNICATIONS REVEALED
In February 2022, a disturbing case emerged involving Paul Frith, a man with ties to both Chesterfield and Derby, who was found to be engaged in serious criminal behavior related to child exploitation and indecent imagery. The case was brought to light during a court hearing at Derby Crown Court, where the details of Frith’s actions were laid bare.
It was revealed that Frith, aged 56, who had previously been a pub landlord, had repeatedly communicated with a girl who was only 12 years old.
The court heard that he expressed a desire to have sexual relations with her, despite her clear age and the fact that she was from Scunthorpe.
The communication began in January 2019, when Frith, under the pseudonym “Paul from Chesterfield,” initiated contact with a girl known as Mercedes.
During their exchanges, he quickly shifted the conversation towards sexual topics, explicitly stating that he wished she was 16 and of legal age.
Mercedes, who was honest about her age and location, made it clear she was only 12 and from Scunthorpe, but Frith persisted in his inappropriate and illegal messages.
Further into their correspondence, Frith expressed a disturbing desire to take her virginity and repeatedly indicated he wanted to engage in sexual activity with her.
At one point, he arranged to meet her in Nottingham, but he later canceled the meeting.
Unbeknownst to him, Mercedes was part of a self-styled paedophile hunter group called Undercover and Exposed, which monitors and exposes individuals involved in child exploitation.
Following the cancellation of the meeting, the group contacted the police, leading to Frith’s arrest.
When authorities seized his electronic devices, they uncovered a cache of child abuse images and videos, some classified as the most serious category of such material.
Evidence also showed that Frith had distributed a small number of these indecent images.
The police investigation confirmed his possession, distribution, and attempts to communicate sexually with a minor.
During the court proceedings, Frith pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including possession of indecent images, distribution of such images, and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.
The court sentenced him to a 21-month jail term, suspended for two years.
As part of his sentence, Frith was ordered to attend 36 rehabilitation sessions and pay £250 towards prosecution costs.
Additionally, he will be registered on the sex offender register for ten years and is subject to a ten-year sexual harm prevention order.
Judge Martin Hurst commented on the case, stating, “Until you got involved in this unacceptable behaviour, you had not been in trouble with the police for a long time.
You were working as a licensee and were obviously lonely and isolated, which may have contributed to your interest in indecent images of children.
The descriptions of these images would revolt anyone, as they depict real children being abused in real time.
But you took it further by communicating with someone you believed to be a child, which is both disgusting and illegal.
You even arranged to meet, which the group would have been pleased to facilitate, possibly even live streaming it on Facebook.
This was to a certain extent drunken fantasy.” Frith’s legal representative, Eddie Leonard, explained that his client had left his rented accommodation due to threats and public exposure, and that he was currently residing in Derby while his parents lived in Chesterfield.
Leonard also expressed uncertainty about whether Frith’s license to operate licensed premises would be revoked, noting that Frith has never worked at the Blue Bell pub nor at the social club.
The court’s verdict underscores the severity of the crimes committed and the ongoing risks posed by individuals involved in such illegal activities.
