PAUL EVANS SHREWSBURY PERVERT WITH 174,000 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES AND VIDEOS

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Shrewsbury, Paul Evans, a 44-year-old man residing in Moneybrook Way, has been found in possession of an alarming collection of indecent images and videos depicting children.

The authorities conducted a raid on Evans' residence in May of the previous year, during which they seized multiple computers and storage devices, uncovering a vast trove of illicit material.

Prosecutor Mr.

Benjamin Lawrence outlined the severity of the discovery in court, revealing that the images and videos ranged across different categories of severity, from Category C to the most serious, Category A.

Specifically, the investigation uncovered 149 images and videos classified as Category A, which involve the most severe forms of child abuse, including the sexual exploitation of children under the age of five.

Additionally, there were 348 items categorized as Category B, and a staggering 174,018 images and videos classified as Category C, which are still considered highly illegal and deeply disturbing.

The court was also informed that more indecent material was stored on a separate disk, indicating the extent of Evans' collection.

The images depicted children as young as two years old, highlighting the heinous nature of his offenses.

Evans' actions are particularly troubling given his prior conviction for similar offenses in 2001, for which he was ordered to undergo a sex offender treatment program.

During police interviews, Evans admitted that he had downloaded such images some time ago but believed he had deleted them.

He explained to officers that he had searched for these images on Google out of boredom, a justification that the court found insufficient given the gravity of his crimes.

Evans had previously pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children during a prior hearing.

Representing Evans, lawyer Mr.

Stephen Scully, provided context for his client's mental state, stating that his relationship had previously broken down, leading to a decline in his mental health.

Scully described Evans as feeling lonely and bored, which allegedly drove him to seek out such disturbing material on the internet.

In sentencing, Judge Jim Tindal emphasized the broader implications of possessing such images.

He stated, “The important thing to understand about this offence is that every time someone like you clicks on an image of an abused child, you are encouraging the market in abuse around the world.

It sounds horrifying to say it, but the reason why other men abuse children and record that abuse is because there’s a trade in it.

Every image is another abused child.” Judge Tindal also pointed out that Evans had a prior conviction for similar offenses, underscoring the ongoing risk he poses.

He expressed hope that the treatment course ordered for Evans might help prevent future offending, but warned that if Evans were to serve prison time, he would likely be released within a year without the necessary support to address his behavior.

Ultimately, Evans was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for two years, and was ordered to complete a sex offender treatment program.

Additionally, he was issued a sexual harm prevention order and will be on the sex offenders register for a decade.

He is also disqualified from working with children, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes and the potential danger he poses to society.
