PAUL DEACON SENTENCED TO 13 YEARS FOR CHILD RAPE IN PORTSMOUTH
A man from Portsmouth has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 13 years after being found guilty of serious sexual offences involving a young girl.Paul Deacon, aged 67, faced a trial at Portsmouth Crown Court where authorities established his involvement in multiple non-recent sexual crimes committed against a girl whose age at the time ranged from just 8 years old to 15.
Some of these offences reportedly took place over two decades ago, highlighting a pattern of abuse that spanned many years.
Deacon denied several allegations during the trial, specifically contesting one count of rape, five counts of indecent assault, one count of gross indecency, and one charge of inciting a child under the age of 16 to partake in sexual activity.
Despite his denial of these accusations, the court ultimately convicted him on all charges after a comprehensive legal process held earlier this month.
The culmination of the trial resulted in Deacon being sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court yesterday, August 25.
The judge handed down the 13-year prison term, signaling a strong stance against sexual offenses committed against minors and emphasizing the seriousness of such crimes.
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Graham Skull of Hampshire Constabulary’s specialized Operation Amberstone team publicly addressed the case.
He described Paul Deacon as a sexual predator who subjected an innocent young girl to multiple instances of assault and coercion.
Detective Skull also expressed appreciation for the victim’s bravery in coming forward, acknowledging her courage in reporting her ordeal to authorities.
He emphasized that her willingness to cooperate played a critical role in securing justice.
The detective further conveyed hope that the victim finds some measure of solace in the knowledge that Deacon will be behind bars for many years.
He reiterated the police force’s unwavering commitment to pursuing justice for victims of sexual crimes and encouraged others to come forward with any information or reports of abuse, reinforcing that their efforts continue to yield results like this case.
This verdict underscores the importance of vigilance and the justice system’s dedication to protecting vulnerable individuals from predatory activities.
It also serves as a stark reminder of the devastating long-term impacts such offences can have and the necessity of pursuing accountability no matter how much time has passed.
