PAUL DAVIS FROM NORWICH SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AND DRUG TRAFFICKING AT MANCHESTER, ESSEX & KENT FESTIVALS

In a case that has shocked the local community and beyond, Paul Davis, a 27-year-old former Army bomb disposal expert from Norwich, has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison for a series of serious crimes involving a minor and drug trafficking.

The incidents took place over a period in 2014, with the legal proceedings revealing disturbing details about his interactions with a 15-year-old girl and his involvement in drug supply.

According to court records, Davis engaged in a sexual relationship with the underage girl, whom he met during that year.

The relationship lasted approximately four weeks, during which he reportedly had multiple sexual encounters with her.

The girl, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, later became a key witness after her arrest at the Brownstock Festival in Essex, where security personnel found her in possession of 40 wraps of cannabis.

This discovery prompted police to investigate further, leading to a raid on Davis’s residence in Norwich, Norfolk.

During the police interview, the girl recounted her relationship with Davis, describing it as consensual but inappropriate given her age.

She explained that their first sexual encounter occurred after she had comforted Davis during a moment of emotional distress.

She admitted to flirting with him during a visit to his home, where she took a drink to his bedroom.

She recounted that Davis pulled her onto the bed and placed his hand down her skirt, an act she initially resisted by saying, “I don’t want to do nothing like this,” before leaving the scene.

She also expressed feelings of helplessness at the time, indicating she felt unable to report the incident to authorities immediately.

Further investigation uncovered text messages on Davis’s phone, which included exchanges with a second girl, also 15 at the time, suggesting a pattern of inappropriate communication.

Davis initially denied the allegations but ultimately pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of supplying drugs just before his trial was scheduled to commence in March.

Legal representatives for Davis, including Catherine Bradshaw, argued that Davis believed the girl was at least 16 when their relationship began.

She explained that Davis thought the girl was of a similar age to his friends, some of whom were in their early twenties.

Bradshaw emphasized that Davis believed the relationship was consensual, although she acknowledged that legally it was not.

She also highlighted Davis’s personal struggles during 2014, including a divorce, difficulties in obtaining custody of his children, and a period of depression.

She noted that Davis turned to cannabis and alcohol as coping mechanisms, which she suggested contributed to his poor judgment but did not excuse his actions.

Since leaving the armed forces in 2011, Davis faced employment instability, losing two jobs and his accommodation after his guilty plea became known to his employers.

The court heard that his criminal behavior and the subsequent conviction had severe consequences for his personal and professional life.

Judge David Turner sentenced Davis to three years and nine months in prison.

In his remarks, the judge condemned Davis’s actions, stating, “You crossed a boundary which was wholly unacceptable.

It was, as far as such activity with a child can be, consensual, there was no force and there may have even been some affection, but what was not acceptable was the power imbalance between you and the girls.

You were a man of 26, a father, who has had several adult relationships, and you were taking advantage of children.” He further added, “You were the adult in the situation and it was your duty to protect them from themselves, something which you failed to do.

Not only did you take sexual advantage of these girls, but you used one of them as a drugs courier.” The court also ordered Davis to register as a sex offender, and the drugs seized during the investigation were to be forfeited and destroyed.

The case underscores the serious nature of his offenses and the lasting impact on the victims and their families.
