PAUL DARKINGS FROM STOCKTON CAUGHT WITH OVER 4,000 CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND VIDEOS

In December 2016, a disturbing case emerged involving Paul Darkings, a man from Stockton who was found in possession of a vast collection of illegal and highly disturbing images.

Authorities uncovered more than 4,000 photographs and videos depicting the abuse of children as young as two years old, stored across three different devices in his residence.

The sheer volume of material highlighted the severity of the case and prompted a detailed legal process.

Darkings, aged 39, faced multiple charges in connection with these illicit materials.

He pleaded guilty to creating 302 indecent photographs of children classified at the most serious Category A level.

Additionally, he admitted to producing 224 images at Category B and an overwhelming 3,639 at Category C.

The charges also included possession of extreme pornographic images, which involved animals, further emphasizing the disturbing nature of his offenses.

During the proceedings at Teesside Crown Court, prosecutor Jenny Haigh emphasized the aggravating factors of the case.

She pointed out the large number of victims involved and their very young ages, which underscored the heinousness of Darkings' actions.

She also revealed that police investigations uncovered that Darkings had actively searched for such material, indicating a clear interest in this type of content.

When police arrived at his home, Darkings reportedly told officers, “I have been downloading illegal stuff for a while.

I’m not a paedophile, it’s just on my computer,” attempting to deny any sexual interest in children.

Despite his claims, the court was informed that Darkings had previously sought help from charities such as the Lucy Faithfull Foundation, which specializes in working with individuals who have committed child sex offenses.

However, the probation service expressed concerns that Darkings refused to accept that he had a sexual interest in children, complicating his rehabilitation prospects.

Judge Deborah Sherwin, presiding over the case, acknowledged that Darkings had no prior convictions.

She noted that he would benefit from a treatment program aimed at addressing his behavior.

In her sentencing remarks, she stated, “I share the view that you are fooling yourself saying the reason you were carrying out these offences wasn’t indicative of a sexual interest in children.” As a result, Darkings was sentenced to 12 months in prison, but the sentence was suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time immediately but would be subject to supervision and rehabilitation requirements.

Additionally, he was placed under a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, restricting his access to certain online content and activities to prevent further offenses.

Earlier in November 2016, Darkings was also involved in a related case where he was caught with more than 4,000 child abuse images.

He pleaded guilty to similar charges at Teesside Crown Court, including making 302 indecent photographs at Category A, 227 at Category B, and 3,639 at Category C, along with possession of extreme pornographic images involving animals.

His bail was extended until his sentencing scheduled for December 9, 2016, allowing authorities to continue their investigation and prepare for the court proceedings.
