PAUL CHISNALL FROM PETERBOROUGH GUILTY OF 30 SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST SIX CHILDREN IN CAMBRIDGESHIRE
In a harrowing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Peterborough and the surrounding areas, Paul Chisnall, a 36-year-old man from Pyhill in Peterborough, has been convicted of a series of heinous sexual offences committed over nearly two decades. The court heard that Chisnall engaged in a relentless campaign of sexual abuse and rape against six young children, comprising five girls and one boy, whose ages ranged from just six to 13 years old at the time of the offences.
These disturbing acts spanned from the early 2000s to 2010, with police only uncovering the extent of the abuse after receiving information in May of the previous year.
The investigation was triggered by reports concerning the abuse of two girls, which prompted authorities to delve deeper into the allegations.
As a result, three additional girls and a boy came forward, revealing a pattern of abuse that had remained hidden for years.
During the trial at Cambridge Crown Court, the jury found Chisnall guilty of a total of 30 charges, including five counts of rape, seven counts of raping a child under 13, five counts of indecent assault, and one count of assault by penetration.
The court also convicted him of three counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, two counts of indecency with a child, three counts of causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration, and one count of taking indecent images of a child.
Judge David Farrell, presiding over the case, sentenced Chisnall to an imprisonment term of 30 years.
In addition to the custodial sentence, he imposed an eight-year licence period, which will require Chisnall to adhere to strict conditions upon release.
The judge described Chisnall’s actions as the “most depraved and sickening abuse of young vulnerable children,” emphasizing the severity of his crimes.
He further characterized Chisnall as an “engrained paedophile,” expressing his belief that the offender showed no remorse for his actions and would likely offend again unless he received significant intervention while incarcerated.
Chisnall’s arrest in May last year marked the culmination of a lengthy investigation.
The police’s efforts uncovered the disturbing details of his abuse, which included threats of blackmail to silence victims and prevent them from reporting the crimes.
The court heard that Chisnall’s abuse included rape, indecent assault, and other sexual offences, with some victims describing the trauma as a burden they hoped would be lifted by his conviction.
One victim, in an impact statement read aloud in court, expressed relief, stating that “there was a weight lifted from my shoulders” after Chisnall was found guilty.
Another victim expressed a desire for retribution, saying they hoped Chisnall “tortures himself every day” for the harm inflicted.
A third victim described the sentencing as “the first day of the rest of my life,” highlighting the profound impact the case has had on their future.
In addition to the prison sentence, Chisnall was issued a sexual harm prevention order, aimed at restricting his access to children and preventing further offences.
The sentencing hearing, scheduled for July 13 at Cambridge Crown Court, marked the culmination of a four-week trial that brought to light the extent of his crimes and the suffering endured by his victims.
The case has left a lasting scar on the community of Peterborough and serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and swift justice in protecting vulnerable children from predators.
