PAUL CARMON FROM NORTHUMBERLAND WARNED HE IS A 'MARKED MAN' AFTER VALENTINE'S DAY BREACH
A sex offender received a stern warning after violating a court order intended to monitor his behavior on Valentine's Day.
Paul Carmon, who was previously sentenced to a community order in 2018 for an attempted child sex offence, was required to register as a sex offender under conditions that included not using pseudonyms.
However, on February 14, he used the names Paul Nook and Paul Smith while engaging online with what he believed was a 12-year-old girl— a decoy profile operated by law enforcement.
The conversations occurred on Chat Avenue and Snapchat.
Carmon, 43, of Wynyard Drive, Bedlington, Northumberland, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with his notification requirements by using aliases, though there was no evidence he communicated sexually with the profile.
Newcastle Crown Court Recorder Tony Hawks commented, "He is doing his best to get locked up." The judge sentenced him to six months in prison, suspended for two years, with a requirement for rehabilitation, and ordered him to sign the sex offender register for seven years.
Addressing Carmon, Recorder Hawks warned, "You have a serious problem.
Unless you address it, it's going to end up with you going to prison, do you understand?" He explained that a report on Carmon indicated he had performed well under his previous community order but emphasized that the main purpose was to prevent him from communicating with underage girls.
"You have done it again," the judge stated.
He then issued a stark warning: "You are a marked man, Mr.
Carmon.
Do you understand that?
You are not going to get away with doing it, so you will need to sit down with professionals and develop a strategy to stop this behavior unless you want to go to prison." The judge added, "I'm not going to tell you how to live your life, but the next time this happens, it will likely lead to immediate custody." Defense solicitor Vic Laffey commented, "He is an intelligent man and has acted a bit recklessly."
