LONDON FACEBOOK MURDER: MAN JAILED FOR JEALOUS RAGE
A man identified as Paul Bristol, aged 25, has been convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend Camille Mathurasingh, aged 27, in April 2009 in London.
The Old Bailey court found Bristol guilty of her murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 22 years.
Bristol, an IT technician originally from Trinidad and Tobago, flew to London shortly after seeing a Facebook photo of Camille with a new boyfriend, which triggered his jealousy and rage.
He brutally stabbed her 20 times at her home in Bow, east London, and then cut himself before crashing her car.
Judge Timothy Pontius stated, 'Clearly you were eaten up by jealousy,' and described Camille as 'a highly intelligent and ambitious young woman - beautiful and vivacious, caring and loving.' Bristol denied murder, claiming it was manslaughter provoked, but the evidence and court verdict confirmed he deliberately murdered Camille after discovering her new relationship through Facebook.
Following the verdict, Camille's mother, Indra Mathurasingh, expressed grief saying, 'Justice has been served for Camille.
She was snatched from us and we are empty without her.' Bristol's actions were driven by obsessive jealousy, leading to her death and a severe criminal sentence.
