Paul Bosworth

Newhall Sexual Abuser

June 2019: Now released July 2010 Pensioner is jailed for the rape of victim over a period of four years A perverted pensioner has been jailed for 16 years for raping a schoolgirl over a four-year period in the 1980s. Derby Crown Court heard the offences carried out by Paul Bosworth, of Orchard Street, Newhall, led to the girl trying to kill herself. The 66-year-old was found guilty after a nine-day trial at Derby Crown Court. He was also convicted of charges of indecent assault involving a boy. Judge John Burgess told him: “You lack any remorse at all. “I cannot give you credit for any kind of contrition.” He ordered Bosworth to pay £10,244 towards the cost of the trial, saying he was regarded as “a wealthy man”. The judge said there had been a reference to a Rolls-Royce used for Bosworth’s business while land he owned could be worth £28m if planning permission was granted. The court heard the initial indecency charges took place between 1972 and 1978.  Later, Bosworth carried out acts of indecency with a girl before the rapes began in 1986, lasting for four years. The judge described the girl “as particularly vulnerable”.  He told Bosworth: “The effect on her life is not difficult to imagine.”   Jonathan Dee, prosecuting, said the two victims had both needed counselling  following the incidents. Dominic Shelley, defending, said Bosworth, who had no previous convictions, had pleaded his innocence throughout the case and continued to do so. While in custody, he had a mini stroke and spent three days in hospital. He also had angina and had previously suffered “mild heart attacks”. Mr Shelley told the judge: “It raises the question whether he will survive the full term [imposed].” The judge said Bosworth would probably serve between half and three-quarters of the sentence before being considered for parole. He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for life. Mr Shelley added: “It will be a very difficult time in custody for Paul Bosworth and not simply because of the type of offending. “He is a man who has spent his entire life outdoors and it is acutely difficult in a custodial setting when you have that life experience behind you.”
