WAKEFIELD PAUL BAKER: CRUISE SHIP PERVERT CAUGHT VIEWING INDECENT IMAGES AFTER RELEASE

In a disturbing case that highlights ongoing concerns about sexual offenders and their reintegration into society, Paul Baker of Wakefield has been found to have accessed and viewed indecent images of children on his home computers following his recent release from prison.

The incident occurred despite Baker being under supervision and on licence, raising questions about the effectiveness of monitoring and the risks posed by individuals with a history of sexual offenses against minors.

On July 5 of the previous year, police officers executed a search warrant at Baker’s residence in Wakefield after receiving intelligence that suggested he was still involved in viewing illegal material.

During the search, authorities confiscated multiple computer devices, which were later examined and revealed a troubling collection of images.

Paul Baker, aged 39, had previously been incarcerated in 2012 for a series of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of 13 boys under his care while working as a children’s activity supervisor on cruise ships.

His role on these vessels, including the Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth, and Queen Mary 2, spanned from 2007 to 2011, during which he filmed himself assaulting children.

The severity of his crimes led to an extended sentence of eight years, with Baker admitting to 12 counts of sexually assaulting a child under 13, among other charges.

Despite his incarceration, Baker was released on licence and placed under the supervision of the probation service.

However, the recent discovery of 196 indecent images on two of his computers, including 124 classified as Category A—the most serious level—indicates a troubling relapse.

Many of these images depicted boys subjected to pain, underscoring the disturbing nature of his offending.

When questioned by police, Baker was candid about his actions, admitting to viewing the images and acknowledging his ongoing issues.

His honesty was noted during the court proceedings, where he appeared via video link from Armley jail, as he had no legal representation present.

Baker expressed a desire to continue receiving help to address his offending behavior, stating, “I apologise, it is something I have to deal with,” and adding, “I am a relatively intelligent person and my issue is that because of that I think I can deal with things myself.” Leeds Crown Court sentenced Baker to 18 months in prison for three counts of making indecent images of a child and breaching a sexual offences prevention order.

The judge, Mustaq Khokhar, emphasized the importance of seeking help while in custody, warning Baker that he must take steps to address his issues.

The court’s decision comes amid ongoing concerns about the potential danger posed by Baker, who was previously deemed a significant threat to the public due to his “deep-seated obsession,” as described during his earlier sentencing.

In 2012, Baker’s criminal record was marked by multiple convictions, including 12 counts of sexual assault and possession of indecent images.

His crimes involved filming himself abusing children on cruise ships, with the incidents spanning several years and involving multiple victims.

The judge at that time highlighted the danger he posed, underscoring the need for strict supervision and monitoring to prevent further harm.
