PAUL-JOHN SAUNDERS OF OXFORD BRANDED DANGEROUS AFTER PREDATORY SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING TEEN GIRLS
In October 2014, a disturbing case emerged involving Paul-John Saunders, a man from Oxford, who was convicted of heinous sexual offenses against young girls and subsequently branded as a dangerous individual by the judicial system.Saunders, a 22-year-old resident of Horspath Road in Oxford, was found guilty after a trial held at Oxford Crown Court of engaging in sexual activities with a 14-year-old girl on multiple occasions between July 29 and December 20 of the previous year.
The court heard that Saunders had targeted not only this girl but also a second teenager, also aged 14, during the same period.
Furthermore, he was convicted of encouraging or inciting the second girl to produce child abuse images, a crime committed between January and December of the same year.
The presiding judge, Peter Ross, did not hold back in his condemnation of Saunders, describing him as a “dangerous” individual and imposing an extended prison sentence.
This decision was influenced by Saunders’ complete refusal to cooperate with probation services, which led to him being sentenced to a minimum of eight years in prison.
Under the terms of his sentence, Saunders will serve at least two-thirds of this period before being eligible for release on license, after which he will be subject to a further four years of supervision in the community.
During the sentencing, Judge Ross highlighted the prolonged nature of the abuse inflicted upon Saunders’ first victim, noting that the misconduct spanned several months and was documented through voice notes that Saunders left on her mobile phone.
Although Saunders attempted to deny responsibility, claiming the voice messages were left by someone else, the judge dismissed this defense, affirming that the recordings were “clearly your voice.” The court also revealed that Saunders had exploited his first victim, using photographs obtained from her as a means of exerting control over her.
The judge emphasized the vulnerability of the 14-year-old girl, stressing her entitlement to legal protection and condemning Saunders’ predatory behavior.
He described Saunders’ actions as targeting vulnerable girls, exploiting one and attempting to do the same with another, who was coerced into sending nude images of herself.
In his remarks, Judge Ross labeled Saunders a “predatory paedophile,” a term frequently used in recent media coverage but one that he felt was appropriate in this case.
The judge condemned Saunders’ treatment of the girls, stating that he viewed them as nothing more than sexual objects.
He also pointed out that Saunders’ actions demonstrated a pattern of exploitation and predatory behavior.
Defense barrister Jennifer Edwards argued that Saunders maintained his innocence, citing his immaturity and suggesting that he deserved an opportunity to demonstrate that he could overcome his issues and cease being a threat.
However, Saunders had already pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of the girls, and as a result, he will be registered as a sex offender for life, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
