EDINBURGH MAN PATRYK KOZLOWSKI ESCAPES JAIL SENTENCE AFTER ONLINE SEX OFFENCES
In June 2021, an Edinburgh man named Patryk Kozlowski avoided a prison sentence after admitting to multiple serious offences related to online child abuse and indecency.Kozlowski, 31, engaged in disturbing online communications with what he believed was a 13-year-old girl named ‘Sophie’.
He sent explicit images of his genitals and a masturbation video to her Snapchat account.
The messages included sexualised conversations that escalated over time.
Unbeknownst to Kozlowski, he was actually communicating with an undercover police officer participating in an operation aimed at catching online sex offenders.
During their exchanges, the officer’s account was named ‘Sophie’, and the interactions reportedly started in June 2020, soon moving from Snapchat to Skype over the following two months.
Prosecutors explained that during these chats, Kozlowski sent not only explicit messages but also a video where he is seen masturbating and heard engaging in sexual activity.
Following his arrest, he was examined by a doctor whose findings confirmed that skin pigmentation matching that in the video was present on his genitals.
Police raids on Kozlowski’s flat in the Wardieburn area of Edinburgh uncovered numerous electronic devices.
These contained more than 400 indecent images of children, including 43 classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of abuse.
Kozlowski pleaded guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month to three charges: possessing indecent images of children between May 1, 2012, and September 23, 2021; taking or allowing indecent images; and sending explicit communications to someone he believed was a 13-year-old girl, including images of his genitals and a masturbation video.
In sentencing, Sheriff Wendy Sheehan ordered Kozlowski not to access legal pornography online or use social media accounts, part of a conduct requirement.
She also registered him as a sex offender for two years and directed him to attend therapy sessions with the Moving Forward Making Changes organisation.
The court heard that his online offending began with messaging the ‘Sophie’ account and that these depraved chats continued until his arrest.
The police seized a laptop and two mobile phones from his home, which confirmed the possession of the extensive illicit image collection.
Kozlowski, who hails from Poland and was residing in Leith, Edinburgh at the time of his arrest, was ultimately convicted of multiple child abuse offences, and authorities continue efforts to prevent further harm.
