PATRICK MCWILLIAMS SENTENCED IN BELFAST FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
In December 2019, a man from Belfast was handed a significant prison sentence after admitting to serious child sex offences.Patrick McWilliams, aged 56 and formerly residing on Oldpark Road in Belfast, faced justice for his involvement in disturbing online activities aimed at exploiting minors.
The case against McWilliams was built over a meticulous three-month investigation conducted by the National Crime Agency in 2018.
During this period, authorities employed undercover officers to gather evidence against him.
An officer, acting as a decoy, engaged in online conversations with McWilliams on an adult website forum, where he initially attempted to establish contact.
Throughout their exchanges, McWilliams made alarming suggestions, including proposing that they abuse a girl’s daughter in England.
His conversations revealed a disturbing intent to commit sexual acts involving minors, as he believed he was communicating with a 12-year-old girl and her mother.
In one particularly shocking incident, McWilliams exposed himself and performed a sexual act in front of what he thought was a minor.
He also expressed a desire to meet in person, indicating he would be in England at the time, although he later changed his mind and canceled the planned meeting.
Despite this, the evidence collected was sufficient to secure a conviction.
Following his guilty plea, McWilliams was sentenced to six years in prison.
The court also ordered that he serve an additional three years on license after his release.
Furthermore, he will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from potential harm.
