PATRICK MCMAHON SHOCKS BELFAST WITH INDECENT IMAGES SCANDAL INVOLVING TEENAGE GIRL
In April 2013, a significant development occurred in a criminal case involving Patrick John McMahon, a man from Belfast, who has now admitted to possessing indecent photographs of a teenage girl. The case was set to proceed to trial at Belfast Crown Court on a Tuesday, where McMahon faced serious allegations of sexual activity with a minor and the taking of indecent images.
However, during the proceedings, defense attorney Dennis Boyd requested that some of the charges be rephrased or reconsidered, leading to a pivotal change in the case.
Following this request, Patrick McMahon, who resides on India Street in the southern part of Belfast, entered a guilty plea to 14 charges related to the possession of indecent photographs of the girl.
These images were reportedly taken during a period spanning from June 30 to July 25, 2009.
The court was informed that these photographs were captured without the girl’s consent and constituted a serious breach of privacy and trust.
Prosecutor Kate McKay outlined the details of the case to the court, emphasizing that, despite McMahon’s guilty pleas to the photographic charges, the prosecution intended to keep five additional charges of sexual activity with a girl aged between 13 and 16 years old on the court records.
These charges suggest that there was an ongoing concern about the nature of McMahon’s interactions with the minor, although the pleas currently only cover the photographic evidence.
As the case moved toward sentencing, His Honour Judge Kinney ordered the preparation of pre-sentence reports to better understand McMahon’s background and the circumstances surrounding the offenses.
The judge also mandated that McMahon sign the police sex offenders register, a legal requirement for individuals convicted of such offenses, before he was released on continuing bail.
The sentencing was scheduled to take place later in the month, with the court emphasizing the gravity of the crimes committed and the importance of proper judicial review before final judgment.
